We’re excited to announce that DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince will launch for Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023!
This new RPG lets you collect a menagerie of iconic DRAGON QUEST monsters, from series icons like the Slimes and Drackys, to brand-new beasts that you’ve never seen before! It’s going to be a fiendishly good time, as you can see in the new trailer:

What’s DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince about?
The new game puts you in control of the titular Dark Prince: a youth named Psaro.
Due to a curse, Psaro is incapable of harming anything with monster blood. He’ll have to command a vast selection of monsters, making smart use of their abilities and attributes to ascend to the top.
Of course, to do that, he needs powerful monsters on his side - his hunt for ever more powerful creatures will take him through the ever-changing seasons of Nadiria and across its unique environments - from flowing rivers of broiling magma to mysterious ruins… and even imposing (yet delicious) towers of sweets.
He’ll also find allies beyond monsters, including Rose - a kind-hearted elf who joins him on his mission to scout new monsters to take into battle.
Of course, becoming the Master of Monsterkind is no easy task, but Psaro has a useful trick up his sleeve: Synthesis - the ability to combine two monsters to create an even more powerful creation. As for whether that will be enough … well, that’s up to you.
What do you do in DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince
As you may expect, this game tasks you with scouting numerous monsters from around the world, and then taking them into battle - either by commanding them directly or letting them fight it out on their own with auto-battle.
On your quest to find ever-more marvellous monsters, you’ll explore the fantastical environments of Nadiria. These sprawling lands are as varied as they are beautiful - and they’re ever-changing. As the seasons pass, so too do the landscapes - for example, you may find previously inaccessible areas become possible to traverse depending on the current conditions.
What’s more, certain monsters will only appear during specific seasons - so there’s plenty of opportunity for a keen-eyed Monster Wrangler to build their army!
You’ll find all kinds of amazing creature, both those you’ll recognize from previous DRAGON QUEST adventures to entirely new creations created specifically for this game. Of course, the monsters you scout are only the beginning…
By Synthesizing two monsters together, you create a one-of a-kind roster. For example, you can create a Slime that specializes in spells or a super-buff Dracky with attacks that can really pack a punch. Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg - while the system is easy to understand, you’ll uncover a staggering amount of depth in the customizability as you build your team.
